Year 2 Science LIVING THINGS AND THEIR HABITATS teaching resources

This set contains IWB teaching lessons, worksheets, activities and display resources. It has been made following the curriculum 2014 objectives.


  • Sorting animals and plants: Looks at the differences between animals and plants as an introduction to the topic
  • Living, dead, never been alive: Shows objects and identifies the difference between the three. It explains the life processes and how you can tell if something is living or has once been alive.
  • Living things and their habitats: Looks at the 4 basic needs of animals and plants and how their needs are met in the habitats in which they live. It explains the different ways in which animals and plants depend upon each other in a habitat.
  • Plants in familiar habitats: Shows the example of a hedgerow as a habitat, and looks at the plants that grow around it.
  • Animals in familiar habitats: Shows the example of a hedgerow as a habitat, and looks at the animals that live around it.
  • Less familiar habitats: Looks at less familiar habitats and some of  the plants and animals that live there.
  • Food chains: Explains a simple food chain, and how  animals obtain their food from plants and other animals
