Year 2 USES OF EVERYDAY MATERIALS KS1 teaching resources

This set contains IWB teaching lessons, worksheets, activities and display resources. It has been made following the curriculum 2014 objectives.


  • Objects, materials and uses: Looks at different objects made from the same materials, to help the children understand how some materials are used for more than one thing..
  • Materials and suitability: Looks at objects and the materials they are made from, asking the children to think about why that material has been chosen.
  • Materials suitable for different objects: Compares the suitability of a variety of everyday materials for particular uses, including objects that can be made from different materials. It gives 22 different objects, asking the children which material or materials would be suitable for them.
  • Changing the shape of objects: Shows a variety of objects and asks if their shape can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting or stretching.
  • Sources of natural materials: Looks at the sources of natural materials and how they are changed and made into different objects.


  • Objects worksheet  x 7: For finding and recording objects that are made from either clay, cotton, glass, leather, metal, rock, wood or wool.
  • Objects and materials worksheet: For recording different objects at school or at home and the materials they are made from
  • Objects, materials and suitability: A recording sheet to describe a chosen object, what it is made from, and why this material has been used.
  • Suitable and unsuitable materials x 4: Four different sheets; each sheet contains 4 objects. The children have to choose a suitable and unsuitable material for each and explain why.
