LO: given a number, identify one more and one less

POWERPOINTS:

  • 1 more 1 less: shows one more and one less on a number line.              
  • Adding 1 more marble: asks the question 'How many marbles will there be if we add one more?' then visually adds one more marble. Gives the children chance to count and check.
  • One less marble: asks the question 'How many marbles will there be if we take one away?', then visually takes one away, giving the children chance to count and check.
  • One less than (numbers to 50): Random numbers for children to say which number is one less than
  • One more than (numbers to 50): Random numbers for children to say which number is one more than

LO: identify and represent numbers using objects and pictorial representations including the number line and use the language of: equal to, more than, less than (fewer), most, least

POWERPOINTS:

  • Blank number grids: To fill in
  • Counting 20 animals: different amounts of animals for the children to count.
  • Counting to 10: Different objects for the children to count. Shows the numerals and the written number.
  • Number grid to 20 50 100: For demonstrations
  • Number grid to 100: For demonstrations
  • Numbers to 10: shows the numbers (in numerals and written in words) with the corresponding number of objects
  • Rearranging and counting objects: Demonstrates and explains that even if objects are arranged, the number stays the same.
  • Comparing numbers: children have to click on the correct number from a selection of five, with instructions to click on the smallest or largest number / number in between / one more than etc.
  • Comparing numbers to 10: looks at more than/less than, firstly pictorial then with numerals.
  • Find the number: A numberline with missing numbers for the children to find
  • Ordering numbers to 10 (easy): Shows a numberline, and the children have to match the next number.
  • Ordering numbers to 10: Shows a numberline, and the children have to select which number goes where.
  • Ordering numbers to 10 (hard): Shows a blank numberline, and the children have to select which number goes where.
  • Ordinal numbers: explains ordinal numbers, then there is a game, where people are lined up, and the children have to choose the correct ordinal number that matches the position of the person in the line.
  • Ordering numbers to 20: The children have to find the missing number on a blank number square to 20.

LO: read and write numbers from 1 to 20 in numerals and words.
