  • Changing Shapes: Different types of materials, and the different types of actions involved in making them change shape.
  • Speeding up and Slowing down: Looks at different ways in which the children could make balls move slower, faster, or change direction.
  • Moving faster and slower: Looks at different ways people move fast - on bicycles, roller skates, swing etc; and asks the children how they could slow down and speed up.
  • How far do objects travel: Asks children to think about questions they might want to explore when thinking about how far toy cars travel on a flat surface.
  • Travelling on a ramp: Looks at vehicles rolling down a ramp, and how different variations can affect the distances travelled.
  • Pushes and Pulls vocabulary: Quick review on vocabulary.

  • Fast / Slow writing sheet : (2 versions, narrow and wide lined) - for the children to write a story about moving in the playground
  • Measuring distance travelled: Recording sheet - can be used in recording the distances travelled by the toy cars / vehicles
  • Blank block graph: To record the results from their investigations.
