KS1 Revision - the rules for adding suffixes Y3/4

This pack revises the work done in years 1 and 2 on the rules for adding suffixes.


Adding suffixes rule 1 and 2: Explains the first rule, that if the word ends in two consonants, then the suffix is added; and the second rule, which is if the word is a one syllable word and ends in a short vowel then a consonant, double the last letter. It gives the children opportunity to put this knowledge into practice with an activity.

Adding suffixes rule 3: Explains that if a word ends with a consonant then e, the e is dropped before the suffix is added. It ends with a quick write activity to add suffixes to a variety of words that end in e.

Adding suffixes rule 4: If the word ends in a consonant then y, change the y to an i before adding the suffix except when you add -ing.It ends with a quick write activity to add suffixes to a variety of words ending in y

Revision of KS1 suffix work: Explains the meaning of suffixes that have been covered in years 1 and 2, then goes over all the rules again, ending in an activity to add suffixes to different types of words.

The rules for adding suffixes: A recap of the rules; questions the children to see if they have remembered them all.
